About An Early Career Researcher’s Guide to the Peer-Reviewed Publication Process

Overview

Join us for a panel discussion with journal editors Professor Suzanne Nielsen (Monash University), Professor Shane Darke (UNSW Sydney) and Associate Professor Raimondo Bruno (University of Tasmania) who will draw on their extensive experience as journal editors, reviewers and authors to answer any questions about the peer-reviewed publication process. Our panel sit on the editorial boards of multiple addiction journals, and have authored over 780 papers between them. This session is targeted at early career researchers and PhD students who are early in their publishing experience.

Professor Suzanne Nielsen

Professor Suzanne Nielsen

Professor Suzanne Nielsen is the Deputy Director of the Monash Addiction Research Centre in Melbourne. She has published more than 200 peer-reviewed publications. Her research has led to a greater understanding of how to identify and respond to prescription, over-the-counter and illicit drug-related harm.  She is a Senior Editor for Drug and Alcohol Review (the Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and Other Drugs journal) and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Substance Use and Addiction Treatment.


Professor Shane Darke

Professor Shane Darke

Professor Shane Darke is a leading world expert on the health effects associated with illicit drug use. He has published widely in the area of illicit drug use, including ground-breaking work on opioid overdose, suicide, psychostimulant overdose, psychopathology, trauma, treatment outcome and toxicology. He has written many seminal works, particularly on opioid overdose, and has published more than 300 articles and 6 books. He is the Australasian Regional Editor of Addiction (the leading international journal in the field) and an Associate Editor of both Drug and Alcohol Dependence and Drug and Alcohol Dependence Reports.


Associate Professor Raimondo Bruno

Associate Professor Raimondo Bruno

Associate Professor Raimondo Bruno is from the School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Tasmania, Australia, with a strong interest in harm reduction, drug markets, novel psychoactive substances and cognition associated with substance use. He has published more than 270 papers. He is a Senior Editor for Drug and Alcohol Review and Associate Editor for Addiction.
